56,003 Teachers Receive Promotion Arrears as CAGD Meets Deadline Early

The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has completed the payment of promotion-related salary adjustments and arrears to 56,003 Ghana Education Service (GES) teachers, finishing ahead of the October 16 deadline set with teacher unions. Of these, 49,725 teachers received their payments alongside their October 15, 2026, salaries, while an additional 6,278 were paid in September. The payments address adjustments and arrears dating back to January 1, 2026.

This follows an agreement reached on October 2 between government officials and teacher unions at the Ministry of Education, which established October 16 as the deadline for clearing the outstanding promotion-related payments. According to CAGD, GES processed and submitted documentation for 56,633 of roughly 80,000 promoted teachers. After verification, payments were approved for 56,003 teachers, while 630 cases are still pending due to issues found during verification. The CAGD is awaiting corrected documentation from GES before proceeding with those payments.

In a statement issued on Thursday, October 15, CAGD reported that 23,367 promoted teachers are still awaiting processing, as their cases and supporting documents have yet to be submitted by GES for verification. The department confirmed that all teachers whose records met payroll requirements have been paid, and that any outstanding eligible payments will be processed once accurate documentation is received and verified. CAGD expressed appreciation to GES, teacher unions, and relevant ministries and agencies for their collaboration in completing the payments.
