More than 700 digital registration stations set for nationwide deployment by 2026 – Muntaka

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, emphasised the importance of technology-driven initiatives in improving policing, such as the TRAFITECH automated road traffic enforcement system and the National Criminal Automated Biometric Identification System. Speaking at the opening of a Police Regional Command Conference in Accra last Friday (August 21), he announced that over 700 digital enrolment stations will be rolled out nationwide by the end of 2026.

These stations aim to bolster intelligence-led policing, enhance investigations, and support crime prevention efforts. Mr Mohammed-Mubarak explained that the deployment of these digital stations is part of broader efforts to leverage technology for better policing and to strengthen the Police Service’s capacity to prevent and investigate crimes.

He encouraged Regional Commanders to foster leadership, accountability, and professionalism within their regions, noting that public expectations of security services are rising and thus Police commanders must maintain high standards. At the conference, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, highlighted that Ghanaians expect the Police Service to be professional, visible, competent, fair, and trustworthy.

Mr. Yohuno urged Regional Commanders to demonstrate strong leadership and make decisive choices that would enhance the effectiveness of the Service. He further called for deeper collaboration among the country’s security agencies, encouraging commanders to strengthen inter‑agency engagement to bolster national security.

The conference brought together members of the Police Management Board, the Chief Director of the Ministry of the Interior, the Medical Director of the Police Hospital, the Commandant of the Police Academy, and Regional Police Commanders from across Ghana.
