The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Ghana Education Service (GES) to recruit and deploy 6,000 young people as community teaching assistants by November 2026. YEA Chief Executive Officer Malik Basintale made the announcement during the Accountability Series on Wednesday, October 21, stating that the initiative aims to provide additional teaching support to basic schools, especially in remote areas.
He emphasised that the Community Teaching Assistant Model is designed to engage qualified youth to support teaching staff and gain classroom experience, noting that it is not a substitute for trained teachers. “I am pleased to announce that as of September, an MoU has been signed with the Ghana Education Service for the onboarding of 6,000 beneficiaries, who are expected to be recruited and deployed by November this year,” Basintale stated.
He also highlighted that the programme is part of the agency’s broader community-based interventions to create job opportunities for young people and address local development needs. The interventions, he added, are intended to help beneficiaries acquire relevant work experience and earn income while serving their communities.
