Legendary Nollywood star Olu Jacobs dies at age 84

Legendary Nigerian actor and film executive Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, widely known as Olu Jacobs, has passed away at 84. His son, Olusoji Jacobs, confirmed the news on Instagram on Wednesday, expressing gratitude for a “life well lived and fought” while requesting privacy for the family.

A powerhouse in African cinema, Olu Jacobs trained at London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and starred in international and British television productions before becoming a defining force in Nollywood.

Celebrated for his commanding screen presence, he earned prestigious accolades, including the Industry Merit Award at the AMVCAs and a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Africa International Film Festival. Alongside his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, Jacobs also helped shape Nigeria’s performing arts sector through the Lufodo Group.
