A total of 20,171 caterers under the school feeding program trained in nutrition – Gender Minister

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has disclosed that 20,171 caterers and head cooks under the Ghana School Feeding Programme have received training in practical nutrition standards. According to the Minister, the training is part of measures to improve the quality and nutritional value of meals provided to pupils under the programme.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, September 16, Dr Lartey said the government had also expanded its compliance monitoring efforts to ensure adherence to the programme’s standards. “We have trained 20,171 caterers and head cooks in practical nutrition standards,” she said. Dr Lartey noted that compliance monitoring had increased significantly, rising from 4,419 schools in 2025 to 8,270 schools in 2026.

She further disclosed that the government had cleared all outstanding caterer arrears from 2024 and paid caterers for the first and second terms of the 2025/2026 academic year. The Minister also announced that funding for the Ghana School Feeding Programme had been increased to GH¢1.982 billion in 2026, with more than 4.527 million pupils currently benefiting from daily meals under the initiative.
