Dey for who dey for you – Nadia Buari

“Actress Nadia Buari has encouraged people to stop seeking approval from those who fail to recognize their worth, urging them instead to invest their energy in spaces where they are valued and celebrated. In a thoughtful Facebook post today, she reflected that life is too precious to waste on proving oneself to individuals determined to misunderstand.

“Life is too short to spend it auditioning for roles you don’t even want. It is too precious to spend your days proving your worth to people who are committed to misunderstanding you,” she wrote.

Nadia, who has built a successful career in both Ghana and Nigeria, encouraged her followers to let go of situations and relationships that no longer serve them. “Stop watering dead plants. Stop knocking on doors that are already shut. Instead, turn your attention inward and upward,” she said.

She also urged people to surround themselves with those who understand and appreciate them, rather than constantly seeking acceptance from the wrong people. “Find the rooms where the lighting suits you. Find the people who speak your language,” she added. For Nadia, choosing people and spaces that reciprocate one’s value is an important part of self-love.

“Choose who chooses you. It is an act of self-love. Go where you are celebrated. It is the path to a life that is not just endured, but enjoyed,” she stated.

Nadia became one of the most recognisable faces of the Ghanaian movie boom of the 2000s. She rose to prominence through films such as Mummy’s Daughter and especially Beyoncé: The President’s Daughter, and later built a strong profile in Nollywood as well. She has also worked as a producer.
