The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has indefinitely postponed the reopening of the 2026/2027 academic year due to an ongoing strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).
In a statement issued on Friday, October 9, 2026, the university’s management announced that the reopening, initially scheduled for October 13, 2026, had been put on hold because the industrial action was affecting the institution’s effective administration and operations.
The notice, signed by Dr Daniel Norris Bekoe, Deputy Registrar of the University Relations Office, on behalf of the Registrar, urged students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders to take note of the development. According to management, the decision was necessary in light of the ongoing GAUA strike and its implications for the smooth running of the university.
Management further indicated that a new reopening date would be communicated in due course. It also apologised for any inconvenience the postponement might cause and expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation.
