The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has introduced new restrictions on the size and placement of campaign posters and banners as part of its ongoing reorganisation exercise, directing affected members and aspirants to comply within five days. The party’s Functional Executive Committee (FEC) has capped the size of campaign posters and banners at five feet wide and eight feet high, warning that anyone who deliberately flouts the directive will face disciplinary action.
In a statement issued on Friday, October 9, and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the NDC expressed concern over reports that some members and aspirants had displayed oversized campaign posters and banners at various locations across the country.
The party explained that the decision followed deliberations at an FEC meeting held on Tuesday, October 6, where members discussed measures to promote order and discipline throughout the reorganisation process. According to the statement, the new guidelines are also intended to ensure fairness and provide a level playing field for all aspirants contesting various positions within the party.
The FEC further instructed members to display campaign posters and banners only at approved locations, including constituency offices, regional offices and designated election grounds. This means campaign materials are prohibited from being mounted at any location outside those authorised by the party.
The NDC added that the directive reflects its commitment to modesty and restraint, particularly as the party currently holds power at the national level. The statement noted that the FEC believes the party must lead by example and avoid excessive displays or any perception of extravagance that could contradict its values and the expectations of the Ghanaian public.
The party has therefore urged all members and aspirants involved in the reorganisation exercise to adhere strictly to the new guidelines within the stipulated five-day period to avoid disciplinary consequences.
