President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Emelia Afi Agbenyo and Dr. Joseph Kweku Asamoah as Deputy Chairpersons of the Electoral Commission (EC). They are scheduled to be sworn into office this afternoon. Ms. Agbenyo serves as the Deputy Director for Operations at the Ghana TVET Service, while Dr. Asamoah is a law lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and a former Director of Finance at the EC.
Dr. Asamoah has held various positions at the commission, including Director of the Training Centre and Head of Audit, which have equipped him with valuable experience in its administrative and financial operations.
These appointments come in the wake of the departure of two former deputy chairpersons: Dr. Bossman Asare, who resigned as head of Corporate Affairs effective July 31, 2026, and Samuel Tettey, who left his position overseeing Operations after reaching the mandatory retirement age. The new appointments are expected to fill these vacancies and restore full leadership to the commission.
