ShattaFest 2026 was expected to dominate headlines for its music and performances, but Shatta Wale’s controversial remarks about fraud and alleged selective justice have shifted the spotlight away from the concert. The dancehall star, who staged the 2026 edition of his annual ShattaFest at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, October 17, used the occasion to question what he described as unequal treatment in the fight against financial crime.
During his performance, Shatta Wale challenged authorities over the arrest of young people suspected of fraud, arguing that government officials accused of misappropriating public funds did not appear to face similar scrutiny. His comments have triggered widespread discussions on social media, diverting attention from the concert to broader issues of corruption, financial crime and the administration of justice in Ghana.
“Make I tell you, I get plenty fraud boys wey be my friends, but me, I no be snitch wey I go snitch anybody. The country no good, so if you go fraud, fraud,” he said. The musician subsequently criticised public officials whom he accused of benefiting from what he considers an uneven application of the law.
“Ministers dey steal, they no dey catch them. Them dey steal our money, they no dey catch them, they dey catch young boys for Ghana,” he added. His remarks highlighted what he perceives as a disparity between the treatment of young people arrested over alleged fraudulent activities and that of public officials accused of corruption.
Shatta Wale also declared that he would not report friends involved in fraud, pointing to the country’s economic challenges as part of his justification. The comments have reignited conversations about accountability, equal application of the law and the enforcement of financial crime regulations. However, they have also overshadowed the main attraction of ShattaFest.
Rather than being remembered primarily for its musical performances, entertainment and the connection between the artiste and his fans, the event has become a major talking point largely because of Shatta Wale’s controversial statements.
The development has shifted the narrative surrounding ShattaFest 2026, with the artiste’s views on fraud and alleged selective justice emerging as one of the event’s most widely discussed moments.
