Ghana’s plans to re-establish a national airline have received a boost following a positive preliminary assessment by global aerospace giant Boeing, which has pledged its support for the country’s efforts to establish a new national carrier. The development comes after a meeting between President John Dramani Mahama and representatives of the American aircraft manufacturer, which is offering technical assistance for the project.
During the engagement, both parties agreed on a roadmap to guide the establishment of the airline. Key areas outlined include identifying strategic and technical partners, securing an Air Operator Certificate (AOC), selecting an appropriate fleet and developing financing arrangements. Boeing also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Ghana throughout the airline’s establishment and subsequent operational stages.
The proposed national carrier is expected to boost the use of the country’s airport infrastructure, enhance Accra’s ambition to become a major aviation hub in West Africa and generate employment opportunities within the aviation sector. President Mahama has previously indicated his confidence that Ghana’s national airline will commence operations before the end of his presidential tenure in January 2029.
