GHS begins nationwide HPV immunisation drive in schools

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) is set to launch a nationwide school-based HPV vaccination campaign from Monday, October 19, targeting girls aged 9 to 14 who have not yet received the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. According to a statement issued on October 19, the first phase of the campaign will take place from October 19 to 23, 2026, while a second round is scheduled for November 30 to December 4, 2026.

The initiative, being implemented in partnership with the Ghana Education Service (GES) through its School Health Education Programme (SHEP) and other stakeholders, seeks to increase HPV immunisation coverage and shield eligible girls from HPV-related illnesses, including cervical cancer.

As part of the exercise, health personnel will visit schools nationwide to administer the vaccines. The GHS has called on school administrators, parents, guardians, teachers, and community leaders to support the programme and work closely with vaccination teams to ensure its success.
