Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to brace themselves for the challenging task of rebuilding the party and positioning it for victory in the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections.
He said the process would require sustained commitment, dedication and hard work as the party reorganises its structures and elects new national officers to lead its preparations for the next general elections. Speaking at the NPP’s 2026 National Delegates Conference on Saturday, October 3, Nana Akufo-Addo described the task ahead as demanding, stressing that it would require “all our energy, time, determination and loyalty.”
According to the former President, the newly elected national leadership will collaborate with the party’s presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, as well as its parliamentary candidates, to strengthen the party ahead of the 2028 elections. Nana Akufo-Addo expressed confidence in the NPP’s ability to overcome its current challenges and return to government, pointing to the party’s electoral victories in 2000 and 2016 as evidence of its capacity to recover and rebuild. He further said an NPP administration led by Dr Bawumia would uphold the rule of law and prioritise the welfare of ordinary Ghanaians, consistent with the party’s motto, “Development in Freedom.”
The former President also urged delegates to elect leaders who could unite the party and spearhead its revival from the polling station level through to the national leadership and presidency. The conference, being held under the theme “One Party, One Purpose, United for Victory,” is focused on electing new national officers who will oversee the party’s affairs and preparations ahead of the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections.
