The Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Zakaria Abdulai, has been arrested in connection with allegations of sexual misconduct, Interior Minister Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka has revealed. Mr Muntaka disclosed this when he appeared before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. He explained that the case had been moved from the regional level to Police Headquarters to ensure further investigations.
According to the Minister, the matter came to his attention on September 7, when the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) received a report. He subsequently directed that the investigation be handled at the national level. Mr Muntaka indicated that investigators had identified one of the alleged victims and were exploring the use of DNA evidence in the case.
“We’ve been able to get one of the ladies, maybe I shouldn’t be putting so much information out, about semen, we are getting DNA… So, what is happening is that this gentleman has been arrested. He’s going through the due process,” the Minister said. He added that investigators would need a court order before collecting DNA samples, in accordance with the law.
The Minister emphasised that Mr Abdulai remained presumed innocent until proven guilty. He assured the committee that investigations were ongoing and that the headmaster would have the opportunity to respond to the allegations through the appropriate legal procedures.
