Rapperholic Is More Than Just a Concert – Sarkodie

Ghanaian hip-hop icon Sarkodie has called for increased government and private sector investment in Ghana’s creative economy, emphasising that his flagship Rapperholic concert drives economic growth well beyond the music industry. Sarkodie explained that the impact of Rapperholic goes far beyond ticket sales, creating opportunities in tourism, hospitality, transportation, food, fashion, media, advertising, employment, and other sectors within the creative value chain.

“Rapperholic is bigger than a concert!” Sarkodie declared, pointing out that its economic value includes spending by visitors, increased revenue for local businesses, temporary jobs, supplier payments, and the potential to boost future tourism and commercial ventures. He advocated for stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors to nurture an ecosystem where Ghanaian entertainment can generate tangible economic value, support businesses, create jobs, and attract visitors.

“Let’s invest in our creative economy. The potential goes far beyond the stage,” he urged. Although Sarkodie underscored the economic significance of Rapperholic, he did not provide specific data to quantify its impact on business, employment, or tourism.

His remarks followed the 2026 edition of Rapperholic, which drew a massive crowd to Kumasi for performances by Sarkodie and other top Ghanaian artists. The event also featured a tribute to the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba, a performance by gospel singer Bernice Offei, and a culturally inspired opening that blended Asante heritage with hip-hop. This marked the second year in a row that the concert was held in the Ashanti Regional capital.

Beyond its economic effects, Sarkodie also took time to honor his dedicated fan base, SarkNation, crediting them with helping promote the concert both online and offline. In a social media post after the second consecutive Kumasi edition at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on October 24, Sarkodie said the event stimulates economic activity not only in Kumasi but also in Accra and across Ghana.

In another post, he thanked his fans for their unwavering support, noting that their efforts were crucial even before his official PR campaign began. “Even before I intensified my PR efforts, you guys were already on the ground and online, promoting the hell out of this event!” he wrote, expressing heartfelt gratitude for their dedication.

He added that the fans had shown Rapperholic belongs as much to them as to him, describing their commitment as truly significant. “What have I done to deserve the amount of work you put in to make this show happen? I honestly don’t have the words to express how I feel,” he shared. He concluded by thanking SarkNation members for their ongoing support.

Since its inception in 2012, Rapperholic has become one of Ghana’s premier annual music events, usually tied to Accra’s December entertainment scene. Its back-to-back editions in Kumasi have expanded the concert’s influence beyond the capital, highlighting the potential for major events to stimulate entertainment and tourism activity in other regions of the country.
