Strong winds have uprooted the historic tree planted by the legendary priest Okomfo Anokye in Agona, located in the Ashanti Region. This significant tree, believed to have been planted around 1690—approximately 330 years ago—was toppled during the recent strong winds that swept through Agona.
Videos shared on social media show the tree lying upside down, with its roots pointing skyward and its branches on the ground. The Onton tree is regarded as a powerful spiritual symbol for the Asante Kingdom. Many residents of Agona are interpreting the tree’s unusual fall, with roots in the air and branches down, as a “spiritual sign.”
