The fight against galamsey requires an ‘all-of-government’ approach – Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings

Minister‑designate for Environment, Science and Technology, Zanetor Agyeman‑Rawlings, has urged stronger collaboration among government agencies and ministries to confront the menace of illegal mining and its devastating effects on the environment and human health.

Appearing before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Thursday, August 27, she described the fight against galamsey as an “all‑of‑government and all‑of‑society imperative.” “Should I receive the approval of this Committee and the House, I intend to engage the relevant ministers across ministries, including Lands and Local Government, to ensure we are aligned and avoid the silo effect,” she stated.

She said the engagement would provide a basis for a coordinated approach and ensure that all relevant agencies work towards a common objective. She added that she would work closely with the EPA to obtain a proper briefing on the current situation and ongoing interventions.
