The University of Ghana (UG) has directed undergraduate students who recorded a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) below 1.00 at the end of the 2025/2026 academic year to withdraw from their respective programmes. In a notice published on Facebook on Thursday, October 22, the university’s Academic Affairs Directorate explained that the directive is in accordance with Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017), which stipulates the conditions for academic progression.
Under the regulation, students are required to attain a minimum CGPA of 1.00 and meet the academic requirements of their respective schools or departments to qualify for progression to the next level of study. The Directorate emphasised that the university’s regulations do not provide for academic probation. As a result, students whose CGPAs fall below 1.00 after all grades for their registered courses have been published will be required to withdraw from their programmes.
Affected students have been advised to verify their academic standing through the university’s Management Information System (MIS) Web and begin the withdrawal process via the Student and Staff Portal (STS). According to the statement, students must log in to the STS Portal at sts.ug.edu.gh/services using their Student ID and PIN, then select the “Withdrawal Request” option to initiate the process.
However, the Directorate noted that the withdrawal process for students in certain programmes would be initiated by their respective schools or departments on their behalf. Students who require further clarification regarding their academic standing or the withdrawal procedure have been urged to contact their respective College Academic Offices.
The university also assured affected students that support and guidance remain available through its Careers and Counselling Directorate.
