The United Party has formally petitioned Ghana’s principal law enforcement and accountability bodies to investigate allegations of attempted extortion, corruption, and abuse of public office involving the Minority Leader of Parliament.
Dated August 23, 2026, the petition was signed by Solomon Owusu, Director of Communications and Spokesperson, and Andrew Appiah‑Danquah, Director of Legal and Constitutional Affairs. It was submitted to the Attorney‑General and Minister for Justice, the Special Prosecutor, the Speaker of Parliament, the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), the Inspector‑General of Police, and the Director‑General of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service.
The petitioners emphasised that their action was taken in the public interest and in fulfilment of what they described as a civic and constitutional duty to advance accountable governance and safeguard the integrity of public institutions. They further stated that the petition seeks to confront corruption and the misuse of public authority.
The United Party is asking the relevant authorities to investigate the allegations and determine whether any criminal, constitutional or administrative wrongdoing occurred. The allegations contained in the petition have not been established, and any investigation would be expected to give all parties an opportunity to respond.
The petition comes as calls for greater accountability in public office continue to attract attention, particularly where allegations involve senior political figures. The party said it was relying on the appropriate state institutions to examine the matter and take any action warranted by the evidence.
