192 suspects arrested by police following intelligence-led raids

The IGP Special Operations Team has arrested 192 suspects during a series of intelligence-led operations across parts of the country, seizing suspected narcotic substances, firearms, ammunition and other items believed to be linked to criminal activities. The operations, carried out between October 2 and 29, 2026, targeted several communities in the Greater Accra Region, including New Town, Dansoman, Weija, Tudu, James Town, Shukura, Okaishie, Lapaz, Chantan, Odawna, Teshie and Fadama.

The largest operation was conducted at Teshie on October 22, resulting in the arrest of 102 people, comprising 93 males and nine females. Police said officers retrieved quantities of compressed dried substances suspected to be narcotic drugs, seven bottles of nitrous oxide and a bottle of Benylin with Codeine. Eight of the suspects, identified as key narcotics peddlers, were subsequently transferred to the Drug Law Enforcement Unit for further investigations.

In another operation at Lapaz and Chantan on October 15, the team arrested 41 suspects, made up of 35 males and six females. Officers also seized quantities of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic substances, which have been retained for evidential and forensic examination. At Okaishie Drug Lane, eight suspects were arrested on October 9, with police confiscating suspected narcotic and pharmaceutical substances, including Tramadol, Rohypnol and codeine-based products.

Meanwhile, a 52-year-old businessman, Richard Polo, was arrested during a separate operation at Odawna following surveillance by the police. Substances suspected to be cocaine and other narcotic drugs were reportedly retrieved from his hideout. Further operations at Fadama and Shukura on October 28 and 29 led to the arrest of two individuals identified as Douglas Kobby, 47, and Habib Yakubu. Items seized included four parcels of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic substances, seven cartridges, a pump-action magazine, a dagger and a machete.

The Special Operations Team also arrested three suspected members of a vigilante group at Alabonu in Asutuare and handed them over to the Tema Regional Police Command for further investigations. In the Eastern Region, four additional suspects were arrested, while police retrieved a pump-action shotgun, ammunition and substances suspected to be Indian hemp and Tramadol.

The police said all the suspects remain in custody and are assisting with investigations. Efforts are also underway to identify and apprehend other individuals who may be connected to the suspected criminal activities.
