Ashaiman’s Deplorable Roads – When Will Change Come?

Ashaiman, one of Greater Accra’s largest municipalities, continues to suffer from a deteriorating road network that has long frustrated residents and commuters. Despite years of protests and appeals to successive governments, little progress has been made. MP Ernest Norgbey previously urged the Akufo-Addo administration to act, yet the situation remains unchanged—even with his party now in power promising nationwide road projects.

While neighbouring areas like Tema enjoy upgrades and regular maintenance, Ashaiman has been left behind. From the main thoroughfares to adjoining routes, roads are in deplorable condition, often becoming impassable during rains. Workers struggle to reach their jobs, and motorists face hazardous driving conditions, particularly along stretches from Ashaiman to Atadeka, where poor infrastructure continues to take a heavy toll

There seems to be a troubling lack of urgency from the municipality’s political leadership. Member of Parliament Ernest Norgbey needs to recognise that representing Ashaiman involves more than just political campaigns and promises. Similarly, Municipal Chief Executive Freeman Tsekpo should exhibit a stronger commitment to addressing residents’ concerns.

Ashaiman deserves better; its residents pay taxes, contribute to the local economy, and should have access to the same quality of infrastructure that is enjoyed by those in neighbouring communities. The pressing question remains: When will Ashaiman finally receive the good roads it so desperately needs? The people of Ashaiman cannot continue to wait indefinitely. It’s time for the government, the MP, and the Municipal Assembly to move beyond mere promises and deliver the roads that residents have been demanding for years.
