Received a Traffitech-GH Fine? Here’s How to Pay or Contest It

The Ghana Police Service’s Traffitech-GH automated enforcement system is now operational. Motorists who receive an Electronic Notice of Violation (ENV) via SMS will be provided clear instructions on how to either pay their fines or formally contest the offense. When you receive an ENV, the first step is to verify the Sender ID, which should display as GPS-MTTD. The message will include the Ticket Number, location, date, and time of the offense, vehicle registration number, description of the offense, amount due, and payment deadline. Motorists should be cautious; any messages from sender IDs other than GPS-MTTD, or those containing clickable links, are likely scams and should not be followed.

Traffitech-GH fine

Motorists are required to pay their fines within 14 days from the date of issuance. Payments can be made electronically through the official government portal, www.ghana.gov.gh, using mobile money services on MTN, Telecel or AirtelTigo, as well as debit or credit cards. Alternatively, motorists can dial the USSD shortcode 7100# and follow the instructions to complete their payments. A confirmation receipt will be sent via SMS once the transaction has been successfully completed.

To avoid delays or inconvenience when accessing services at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), motorists are encouraged to check for outstanding fines by dialling *220# before visiting any DVLA office. Failure to settle fines within the stipulated 14-day period will attract a late payment surcharge of one per cent of the original fine for every day of default.

Additionally, the DVLA will withhold services such as driver’s licence renewal, vehicle registration, ownership transfer and roadworthiness inspections until all outstanding Traffitech-GH fines have been fully paid.

How to contest a violation

Motorists who dispute the validity of a traffic violation have 14 days from the date the fine is issued to formally challenge it online. The process requires motorists to first review the evidence of the alleged offence through the Traffitech-GH portal at https://traffitech-ghpay.nib.com.gh. They must enter their Ticket Number and select the option to access the accompanying photographic or video evidence, alongside other details relating to the violation.

If, after reviewing the evidence, a motorist decides to challenge the fine, they must initiate the contest process online by selecting their preferred Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) regional police station and a suitable date.

The NIA-related? No—contest applications cannot be initiated at GPS-MTTD or Judicial Service offices.

Following the online submission, an officer will contact the motorist to arrange an appointment, after which a court hearing will be scheduled. Motorists attending the hearing are required to present their ENV reference number and a valid form of identification.

They may also be required to provide their Ticket Number, vehicle registration details, contact information and relevant supporting documents, including a police report where applicable. Motorists are, however, cautioned that paying a fine amounts to accepting and settling the violation, meaning it can no longer be challenged through the contest process.

For individuals without internet access, evidence relating to their alleged violations can be obtained by contacting the Traffitech-GH Call Centre on 059 692 2402. The public is also advised to report suspicious messages or demands for payment into personal mobile money accounts to the Police through 191 or the toll-free 18555 hotline.
