The Ministry of Health has announced the successful restoration of the District Health Information Management System (DHIMS), confirming that the platform is now fully operational after a temporary disruption. In a press statement dated November 6, 2026, the Ministry explained that the system, which is managed by the Ghana Health Service (GHS), is responsible for collecting, processing and managing health information at the district level.
The Ministry expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their patience and understanding throughout the period of disruption. It also clarified that the Ghana Health Information Management System (GHIMS), which hospitals use to manage patients’ medical records and other clinical information, was not affected and remained fully operational throughout the incident.
The clarification is expected to allay concerns about possible disruptions to hospital services and the management of patients’ medical records. The Ministry reiterated its commitment to strengthening the country’s digital health infrastructure to enhance operational efficiency, improve data management and support effective healthcare delivery.
The development follows calls by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin for Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh to appear before Parliament and explain the circumstances surrounding the shutdown. Mr Afenyo-Markin wanted the Minister to brief the House on the factors that led to the disruption, which was reportedly linked to an outstanding cloud hosting bill exceeding US$64,000.
The matter was raised in Parliament amid growing concerns about the potential implications of the disruption for health information management, data collection and reporting across the country.
