Deputy Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, has announced that Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, is under investigation for alleged unauthorised financial transactions at SIC Life Savings & Loans Company Ltd. The investigation focuses on suspected offences that include financial loss, the dissipation of public funds, and money laundering. Dr. Srem-Sai made this announcement while confirming that the High Court has issued a warrant for the MP’s arrest due to his alleged failure to respond to an invitation from the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO).
In a post on X, he said the MP had allegedly declined to cooperate with the investigation since February 2026.
“I can confirm that the High Court has issued a warrant for the arrest of Mr Agyei Baffour Awuah (Hon. MP), who has, since February 2026, refused to honour an EOCO criminal investigative invitation,” he posted.
According to Dr. Srem-Sai, the investigation pertains to suspected financial offences related to transactions at SIC Life Savings & Loans. The High Court has issued a warrant authorising the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) to arrest the Member of Parliament (MP) after the agency informed the court that it had exhausted all reasonable efforts to secure his voluntary attendance.
This development follows an attempted arrest of Mr. Baffour Awuah at the Accra High Court on September 23. That attempt led to a confrontation at the court premises and sparked public discussion about EOCO’s approach to securing the MP’s attendance. EOCO later clarified that the attempted arrest was part of an ongoing investigation and followed two invitations issued to Mr. Awuah in February 2026.
As a result of the latest developments, the MP is now the subject of a court-backed arrest warrant while EOCO continues its investigation into the alleged financial offences. It is important to note that the allegations against him have not yet been determined by a court.
