The Adenta Circuit Court has granted bail to Salomey Awity Bafoh, a 40-year-old Senior Nursing Officer, in the amount of GH¢100,000 with two sureties, who must be justified. She is facing charges for allegedly aiding the publication of false news related to the social media account “Ghana Jollof.” The court, presided over by Angela Attachie, also directed Bafoh to report to the police station every two weeks while on bail. The prosecution, represented by the Deputy Attorney-General, did not oppose the bail application.
Charges
Bafoh, who is based in Techiman, has been charged with abetting a crime, specifically the publication of false news, in violation of sections 20(1) and 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). She has pleaded not guilty. It is alleged that she acted as a liaison for Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, also known as “Ghana Jollof,” who is currently wanted by the police and believed to be in the United Kingdom.
The prosecution claims that Bafoh recruited others to redistribute and circulate videos produced by Kodua on various social media platforms. Police investigations reportedly uncovered financial connections between the two. A forensic examination of Bafoh’s mobile phone and her mobile money transaction records allegedly revealed transactions linked to these activities.
Bail
On Monday morning, October 5, counsel for Bafoh, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, reminded the court that the accused had been in custody for three weeks and requested that bail be granted. He stated, “At the last hearing, you advised the accused to report to the court. The accused has now been in custody for three weeks. We are completely in your hands.”
The Deputy Attorney-General informed the court that the prosecution was not opposed to the bail application. The court subsequently granted Bafoh bail in the amount of GH¢100,000, requiring two sureties to be justified. The sureties must be civil servants earning no less than GH¢300. Additionally, the court ordered Bafoh to report to the Hesua Police Station once every two weeks.
The case was adjourned to February 17, 2027.
