Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has called for increased investment in education, skills development, entrepreneurship and employment opportunities for young people in Zongo communities to help protect them from crime, drug abuse, violence and extremism. He urged stakeholders to move beyond merely expressing concern about youth unemployment and instead take deliberate steps to invest in the education, training and overall development of young people.
According to the Ga Mantse, unemployment, poverty and social exclusion can expose young people to destructive activities when they lack meaningful opportunities and begin to lose hope about their future.
Speaking at the Zongo Chiefs Conference in Accra, held under the theme “The Zongo Development Agenda,” King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II advocated greater investment in apprenticeships, access to finance, digital skills training, sports development, mentorship programmes and employment partnerships with the private sector.
He stressed the need for preventive action, noting that society should not wait until young people go astray before responding to their challenges. We cannot simply condemn young people after they have gone astray. We must create opportunities before they lose hope,” he said.
