Sebrepor Residents Cry Out for Relief After Months of Water Shortages and Expensive Tanker Services

Residents of Sebrepor in the Kpone-Katamanso Municipality of the Greater Accra Region are appealing to the relevant authorities for urgent intervention to resolve a prolonged water shortage that has disrupted daily activities and increased household expenses. The residents say the crisis has persisted for more than a year, with the situation becoming increasingly difficult in recent months as access to a reliable water supply continues to deteriorate.

A visit to the community by TV3 News highlighted the challenges households face in obtaining sufficient water for essential domestic activities, including cooking, bathing, washing and cleaning. Some residents disclosed that they sometimes spend several days without a dependable water supply, forcing them to seek alternative sources to meet their daily needs.

The prolonged shortage has made access to water a major concern for households, with residents often struggling to secure enough for their most basic activities. With the regular supply unable to meet demand, some households have turned to alternative sources, raising concerns about the quality and safety of the water available to them.

The crisis has also increased reliance on private water tankers, which supply parts of the community at costs residents describe as expensive. Residents say the high prices are placing additional financial pressure on households that must purchase water regularly to meet their domestic needs. For many families, the cost of securing sufficient water has become a growing burden.

They are therefore calling for a dependable water supply to be restored to reduce the financial strain and the difficulties associated with sourcing water from different providers. Authorities in the Kpone-Katamanso Municipality have acknowledged the supply challenges, attributing them to pipeline repair works and increased demand during the dry season.

According to the authorities, emergency water deliveries have been arranged to provide temporary relief to affected communities.

However, some residents say the deliveries have been inconsistent, leaving several households dependent on private tankers and other alternative sources. The authorities have also indicated that efforts are underway to repair the affected infrastructure and improve water distribution across the affected areas.

While these interventions are expected to ease the situation, residents insist that immediate and sustained measures are needed to address their daily struggles. They are calling on the relevant authorities and water supply agencies to expedite repairs, improve emergency water deliveries and ensure that households receive adequate supplies until normal distribution is restored.

Beyond the immediate relief, residents are demanding a lasting solution to prevent recurring shortages and reduce their dependence on expensive private water suppliers. The prolonged disruption has also raised concerns about public health, sanitation and household welfare, as limited access to water makes it difficult for residents to maintain proper hygiene and meet essential domestic needs.

For the people of Sebrepor, the priority is to regain reliable access to safe water without the uncertainty, inconvenience and additional costs that have become part of their daily lives. Until a lasting solution is implemented, residents say they will continue to face the challenge of securing enough water for their households, placing further pressure on families already struggling with the effects of the prolonged shortage.
