The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the implementation of visa waiver arrangements between Ghana and the Maldives, Zambia, and Antigua and Barbuda. This follows ratification by Parliament and the entry into effect of the respective agreements. In a public announcement dated September 8, 2026, the Ministry stated that eligible Ghanaian passport holders can travel to these countries without needing to obtain an entry visa, as long as they adhere to the terms and conditions of the agreements.
The visa waiver arrangements apply to holders of Ordinary, Service, and Diplomatic Passports. For the Maldives and Zambia, the maximum duration of stay is 30 days, while for Antigua and Barbuda, it is 90 days.
Travellers are advised that visa-free entry does not exempt them from complying with the immigration and entry requirements of the destination country. Ghanaian passport holders must carry a valid passport and any other documents required by the relevant authorities and must not exceed the permitted duration of stay. Additionally, travellers intending to work, study, reside, or engage in any activities that require a permit or specific authorisation must obtain the necessary approval from the appropriate authorities.
The Ministry also encourages travellers to verify the current entry, health, and other applicable requirements with the relevant authorities or the nearest Embassy or High Commission of the destination country, as these requirements can change. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating the movement of Ghanaian citizens and strengthening bilateral relations with partner countries.
