The Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, has confronted military personnel regarding the demolition of structures around the La Beach Resort. She questioned why the La area was being targeted despite assurances from the government that it would be spared. Speaking to the media on Friday, October 2, the MP stated that she had engaged with the relevant authorities about the planned demolition and was assured that the structures surrounding the Labadi Beach Hotel would not be affected.
Surprised by the ongoing demolitions, she emphasised that neither she nor her team had been adequately informed. “I spoke to the authorities, and they assured me that Labadi Beach would not be demolished,” she said. According to her, officials later claimed that the demolitions were taking place because the land belonged to Labadi Beach Hotel, despite ongoing concerns about ownership of the area. She questioned the rationale behind the demolitions, asking, “What has La done?”
The situation has become even more concerning, as she reported that military personnel were allegedly firing shots and brandishing guns at individuals present at the site. As the MP for the area, she underscored her active engagement with authorities regarding developments in La and asserted that she was not remaining passive about the demolition activities.
