The Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG), Rev. Enoch Nii Narh Thompson, has condemned the use of insults in Ghanaian politics, describing the practice as contrary to Ghanaian cultural values, Christian teachings and basic principles of human conduct. Speaking to Citi News, Rev. Thompson said the Council was urging its members, particularly those involved in partisan politics, to promote respectful and constructive political discourse.
He criticised politicians who resort to personal attacks and derogatory language in their quest for political power, stressing that such behaviour contradicts the values they are expected to uphold.
“ It goes against our culture as Ghanaians. It goes against our teachings as Christians, and it goes against normal human value to be downgrading and insulting other people in order to gain political power,” he said.
Rev. Thompson called on political actors to embrace what he described as “pure and sanitised” politics, emphasising the need for mutual respect, democratic principles and Christian values in Ghana’s political discourse.
