The Ghana Education Service (GES) has cautioned teachers seeking promotion against paying GH¢210 to individuals who claim they can facilitate the processing or approval of their applications. The Service said it had received reports that some individuals were demanding the money from promotion applicants under the guise of helping them secure approval.
In a notice published on Facebook on Wednesday, October 21, the GES emphasised that the teacher promotion process was fair, transparent and entirely free of charge. It urged applicants to reject any requests for payment from individuals claiming to have the ability to facilitate or influence the outcome of their applications.
“Applicants are, therefore, advised to ignore any demands and refrain from making payments to individuals who claim they can facilitate or influence the promotion process,” the Service stated. The GES also advised teachers to adhere strictly to the official procedures and guidelines communicated by the Service when pursuing their promotion applications.
The warning comes amid concerns about individuals allegedly exploiting teachers seeking career advancement by demanding money in exchange for purported assistance with their promotion applications.
The advisory is aimed at protecting applicants from financial exploitation while safeguarding the credibility and integrity of the promotion process. The Service reiterated that no payment is required to facilitate or influence a teacher’s promotion and urged applicants to remain vigilant against unofficial payment arrangements.
