NPP Opens Registration Portal on November 1 for 2028 Parliamentary Candidates

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to open an online portal from November 1 to 10, 2026, to enable prospective parliamentary candidates to formally declare their intention to contest the party’s primaries ahead of the 2028 general elections. The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, said the exercise forms part of efforts to prepare interested aspirants for the parliamentary selection process through training and capacity-building initiatives, while ensuring they satisfy the requirements of the party’s constitution and Ghanaian law.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, October 29, Mr Kodua Frimpong clarified that declaring an intention to contest does not constitute the formal opening of nominations or authorise prospective candidates to begin campaigning in their respective constituencies.

“The party wants to reiterate that declaration of intent does not mean that a person has the right to go around and campaign in various constituencies. We have still not opened nominations,” he stated. Prospective parliamentary aspirants will be required to pay a declaration fee of GH¢5,000 to register their intention to contest on the NPP ticket.

Mr Kodua Frimpong explained that the initiative was informed by lessons drawn from the party’s performance in the 2024 general elections and is aimed at ensuring a peaceful, transparent and united process in selecting parliamentary candidates for the 2028 polls. He added that the party would conduct vetting to establish whether prospective aspirants meet the constitutional and legal requirements to be nominated as parliamentary candidates.

Those who successfully complete the process will participate in zonal training and capacity-building workshops scheduled for December. The Northern Zone will hold its workshop from December 1 to 4, followed by the Middle Zone from December 8 to 11, while the Southern Zone workshop is scheduled for December 15 to 18.

The exercise will cover all prospective parliamentary candidates, including sitting Members of Parliament seeking re-election on the NPP ticket. Mr Kodua Frimpong urged interested party members to submit their declarations through the designated online portal, ppc.nppghana.org, within the November 1–10 registration period. He described the initiative as a new strategy to equip prospective candidates with the necessary knowledge and skills ahead of their potential responsibilities as representatives of the party in Parliament.
