President John Mahama stated that he actively monitors social media platforms, including TikTok, to stay informed about public concerns regarding his administration and to ensure that citizens’ complaints reach the appropriate ministers. He emphasised that he does not dismiss criticism, even from those who believe his government is steering the country in the wrong direction. According to him, public feedback is essential for identifying issues and improving governance.
During an engagement with the Ghanaian community in Moscow, President Mahama shared that he often encounters complaints through various media channels and personally contacts ministers to seek explanations about developments in their respective sectors. “I don’t mind if people tell me that I am leading the country in the wrong direction because I am trying to do my best. Criticism helps me to improve. So when people criticise me and point out what isn’t right, I am not offended,” he said.
He explained that such criticism often motivates him to question his appointees and encourages them to address the issues brought to his attention by the public. “There are times when I see something in the media, and I call the minister and ask, ‘Hey, what is happening in your sector?’ They explain, and I respond, ‘No, you better step up because I have seen this and that.’ This process helps me to be a better leader,” he added.
President Mahama stressed that citizens should not assume the presidency is unaware of their social media posts, asserting that he pays attention to discussions and complaints circulating online. “So all your TikToks and other posts, don’t think I don’t see them; I do see them,” he stated.
