A 23-year-old student, accused of stealing GH¢1.5 million belonging to Bishop Daniel Obinim, has pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit crime, to wit, stealing, and stealing. Ohemaa Serwaa Abigail Owusu Ansah entered her plea when she appeared before the Adenta Circuit Court for the second time on Friday.
At her first appearance, the court granted her bail in the sum of GH¢1 million, with two sureties, one of whom was required to justify the bail with landed property. However, the court deferred taking her plea at the time. Presenting the facts of the case, Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, the prosecutor, identified the complainant as Bishop Obinim, founder of the International Godsway Church, and said the accused was a friend of the bishop.
The prosecution told the court that on October 13, 2026, the accused visited Bishop Obinim at his residence in Lakeside. The two reportedly had a conversation in his room before the bishop left for church, leaving her at the residence. At about 7:00 a.m. the following day, Bishop Obinim allegedly discovered that his safe had been broken into and GH¢1.5 million in cash was missing.
When questioned about the incident, the accused allegedly disclosed that she had contacted her father’s worker, identified as Owusu, who arranged for two young men to visit the bishop’s residence. She reportedly admitted leading the two men into the room and showing them the safe, which they allegedly broke open before making away with the money.
According to the prosecution, the accused was arrested on October 16, 2026, at about 2:00 p.m. and taken to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters for further investigations. In her caution statement to the police, she allegedly admitted inviting the two men to the complainant’s residence to break into the safe and steal the money. The prosecution told the court that investigations into the case were still ongoing.
