The Ghana AIDS Commission is set to introduce a new range of ultra-thin condoms following concerns raised by users about the comfort and suitability of existing products. The new condoms, expected to hit distribution centres from Friday, November 6, have been designed to enhance user comfort and acceptability, with sizes specifically tailored to the needs of Ghanaian men.
Speaking on JoyNews on Thursday, November 5, the Commission’s Director-General, Dr. Kharmacelle Prosper Akanbong, said the new products were developed after the Commission took into account feedback and complaints gathered from users during previous assessments. He explained that the condoms would feature improved elasticity, durability and lubrication while meeting the required quality standards.
According to Dr. Akanbong, the ultra-thin condoms are expected to offer a better user experience and compete favourably with other commercially available ultra-thin brands on the market. He added that feedback from previous users had informed the improvements to ensure the new products addressed most of their concerns.
Dr. Akanbong further disclosed that the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) was expected to approve the first batch before they could be released for distribution to the Commission’s stakeholders and other condom distribution centres. He indicated that the products could be available to the public as early as Friday, November 6, or by Monday, November 9, subject to the FDA’s approval.
