Founder’s Day: Monday, September 21 has been declared a public holiday

The Ministry of the Interior has declared Monday, September 21, 2026, as a statutory public holiday to celebrate Founder’s Day. Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak made this announcement in a notice issued on Monday, September 14, 2026.

Founder’s Day commemorates the birthday of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President and a key figure in the country’s struggle for independence. The observance of Founder’s Day on September 21 is a result of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which was passed by Parliament.
