GH¢500,000 debt dispute
Preliminary investigations into the incident suggest that a financial disagreement between George Atuguba and the principal suspect may have led to the killings. According to the police, George Atuguba had allegedly borrowed GH¢500,000 from Samuel Christopher Osei Anto but had failed to repay the debt. On the morning of the incident, the suspect reportedly visited the deceased’s residence accompanied by Beatrice Mumuni to demand repayment.
A heated disagreement is said to have erupted during the encounter, resulting in Samuel Christopher Osei Anto allegedly shooting and killing George Atuguba and his niece. Following a report of the incident, officers from the Sakumono District Police Command were dispatched to the scene, where they discovered the bodies of the two victims lying in pools of blood.
The victims were subsequently transported to a hospital, where a medical officer confirmed their deaths. Their remains were later transferred to the Police Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue.
